NFL Combine

Today, March 2nd, marks the start of the 2018 NFL Combine
For those unfamiliar, the Combine is a several day event in which players coming out of college can come to Indianapolis and showcase their speed, strength, agility, jumping, intelligence, and football ability. 

Some of the main events at the combine are: 40-yard dash, bench press, vertical jump, broad jump, 20-yard shuttle, three cone drill, 60-yard shuttle, and the Wonderlic test. Along with drug tests and physical measurements.

Here is an interesting marketing strategy implemented by Adidas at the combine
 The record for the 40-yard dash was 4.24 seconds, set by Chris Johnson in 2008. This record was seemingly impossible to beat, so Adidas said, "If anyone breaks Johnson's record while wearing Adidas shoes, you will receive your own private island as a reward."

 So naturally, everyone who thought they had a chance at breaking the record would slip on a pair of Adidas sneakers for their 40-yard dash (Which is probably the most watched event at the combine) because why not give yourself the chance to win yourself an island?

Well that's what MOST people would think right? Wrong. Former University of Washington wide receiver John Ross ran his 40-yard dash last year in 4.22 seconds. Shattering the previous record set in 2008. Good for him right? A tropical island all to yourself! Nope, John Ross wore Nike's so he missed out on a big prize there. 

But here's a theory, maybe the reason he broke the record was because he wasn't wearing Adidas. And although he lost out on his own island, his blazing speed made his draft stock skyrocket, and Ross was taken in the top 10 in the 2017 NFL Draft, which means he got a MUCH larger signing bonus and a MUCH bigger contract than if he were to be taken in the second round or later.
So if he really wanted to, im sure he could buy his own island now.

    It's crazy how he did so great in the combine and he he definitely can buy his own island now . AN average island cost around 100,000$ while he is making 10.1 million

Im gonna talk about sports now

So in recent news, the Eagles won the Superbowl last weekend and they had their parade yesterday which I attended. I'm no Eagles fan but as the great Louie Lastik said in Remember the Titans , "Someone said football, so I come runnin'". One thing that i did notice during the parade that caught my eye was that people were all holding Bud Lights in their hands. This is of course because the company made a deal with one of the Eagles lineman, Lane Johnson, that if they won the Superbowl the fans would get free Bud Light at the parade. It sounds like a big loss of money for the company but in reality,  everyone was hearing about it and everyone was drinking their product, so did they really lose? And to cap it off, all through out the parade, Bud Light had planes flying over the city blowing out smoke that spelled "DILLY DILLY" and "PHILLY PHILLY" to promote their product even more . Well played, Bud Light.

Money, Money, Money

I know a lot about football so I'll talk about that. So San Francisco 49ers Quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo got paid a few weeks ago, with a 5 year 137.5 Million dollar contract (thats 27.5 Million a year). He's only made 7 starts as an NFL quarterback and apparently that warrants becoming the highest paid player in NFL history. But all jokes aside he deserves it. He was the backup behind Tom Brady for several years and in his 2 starts as a Patriot he was 2-0 before being traded to the niners this year. The 49ers were the second worst team in the NFL this year with 5 games left, with an astounding     1-10 record. Then the 49ers traded a 2nd round draft pick to the Patriots for their young, unproven, but very talented QB, Jimmy G. How much could 1 player really help out a team with 1 win? Well in the 5 games that remained in the 16 games season, Jimmy G started all 5 of them as their new QB, and well... he must've learned a thing or two from Tom Brady. The terrible...
